Officially known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit, the #METGALA is considered the biggest party of the year. It’s a glorious event held on the first Monday of May and is aimed at raising money for the Costume Institute. The gala has a theme every year according to which celebrities play dress up. The theme for this year’s gala was ‘Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between,’ honoring Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, who founded the label Comme des Garçons. She is the second living designer to be given a solo show at the Met after Yves Saint Laurent (1983).
