Pre-Questing is a strategy to prepare efficiently for WoW SoD Phase 2. Pre-Questing allows you to skip 2 to 3 character levels in less than one hour as soon as Phase 2 starts. Pre-Questing avoids competition from other players or PvP in contested zones to give you the advantage of staying ahead of the curve while leveling to level 40.
Learn what quests you should prepare now in our WoW SoD Phase 2 Pre-Questing guide for Alliance and Horde.
What is Pre-Questing in Season of Discovery?
Pre-questing for Phase 2 of the Season of Discovery means that you will already be doing the following things during Phase 1:
- Complete as many quests as possible during Phase 1, but don’t turn the quests in. At the WoW SoD Phase 2 launch, you want to have 20 completed quests in your Quest Log.
- Collect additional items that start more quests in your inventory.
- Prepare hand-in items for quests that aren’t in your Quest Log yet.
That way, you can prepare way over 20 quests. With the launch of Phase 2, you just turn all the quests in and get to level 27 or even level 28 without killing any enemies.
Advantage of Pre-Questing
The big advantage is, that you get ahead of the curve. When Phase 2 releases it will be really difficult to do quests that involve killing enemies, as all areas will be overrun by flocks of players.
By pre-questing now, you can get to at least level 27 at release and start questing in a higher zone or do higher quests than the average player.
Disadvantage of Pre-Questing
One disadvantage is, that you would earn more gold if you do the quests now, while you’re at level 25.
Why is that? If you’re at the level cap of a phase, you don’t get any experience points while turning in quests. The experience points get converted into gold instead. This means you can earn more gold for these quests now at level 25 than you would earn in Phase 2 with a level cap of 40.
Should You Do Quests in Phase 1 For Gold or Save Quests for Phase 2?
Whether you should do quests now for the increased gold income or keep them for experience points in Phase 2, really depends on your situation. In the beginning, I was a big fan of doing all quests in phase 1. But my opinion shifted in the last couple of weeks. There is a lot of gold available in Phase 1 and I expect very big inflation in Phase 2. If there is a big inflation in phase 2, the gold you can earn now by doing quests will not have a big impact on your life at level 40.
In my opinion, doing quests now for gold is only worth it under these circumstances:
If you wouldn’t invest the gold from quests and you don’t plan to do dungeon grinding to level up, I would not recommend to complete all quests for gold now. If you have around 40 gold or more right now, you will not have problems in Phase 2. The increased gold you can make from these quests now (and the resulting buying power in Phase 2) is nothing compared to the gold you can make at level 40.

WoW SoD Horde Pre-Quest Route For Phase 2
For
Horde characters, you want to complete quests mainly from Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, Thousand Needles, and The Barrens before WoW SoD Phase 2 launches.
Some of these quests give you Pre-Raid BiS items. So if you intend to raid BFD with that character you might have turned the quests in already. In the following lists, you’ll find more quests than you can accept. You can substitute quests you might have completed already.
Preparations
Set your Hearthstone to Splintertree Post in Ashenvale and log out in Tarrens Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills at the end of Phase 1.
Keep all
Supply Shipments you find after hitting Friendly with your faction. If you fill them, they aren’t unique and you can store as many as you want in the bank. There is a chance the turn-in XP might be increased in Phase 2. If that’s the case, this will help you to level up faster.
You can prepare up to 240
Wool Cloth and 240
Silk Cloth to do the 4 cloth donation quests. You can send 12 stacks of 20 cloth per mail to your character before Phase 2. To save inventory space, don’t take them out of the mailbox until you’ll need them.
Participate in Ashenvale to get
Silverwing Sentinel Charm after the last weekly reset in Phase 1. Don’t start
Clear the Forest! yet.
If you farm 18
Warsong Gulch Mark of Honor, you can turn in the Warsong quest 6 times after Phase 2 starts. You can’t have more than 20 tokens in your inventory. If you earn more tokens than you can hold, they will be sent to your mailbox with a 24h duration. The mailbox will be wiped a day before Phase 2 starts and the item recovery for
Warsong Gulch Mark of Honor is disabled by Blizzard in SoD to avoid exploits. This means that 18 tokens is the most optimal amount you can farm now. You can farm more
Warsong Gulch Mark of Honor on the last day before Phase 2 starts.
In preparation for Phase 2 of Season of Discovery, you want to start your journey in Hillsbrad Foothills. Ideally, you place your character in Hillsbrad at the end of Phase 1, so if Phase 2 starts you are already in the right location. Have the following quests completed in your Quest Log and turn them in:
Fly to Undercity to turn in
Battle of Hillsbrad,
A Donation of Wool, and optionally
A Donation of Silk. Now use your Hearthstone to teleport to Splintertree Post in Ashenvale.
Ashenvale
Ashenvale is a great zone to pre-quest with a
Horde character before Phase 2 launches. You can prepare the following quests:
Now fly to Zoram Strand in Ashenvale. Prepare the following quests to turn them in in Phase 2:
Now fly to Sun Rock Retreat in Stonetalon Mountains.
Stonetalon Mountains
In Stonetalon Mountains you can prepare the following quests:
Elemental War
Harpies Threaten
New Life (requires
Cycle of Rebirth to unlock)
Now fly to Camp Taurajo in The Barrens.
The Barrens
In the southern barrens are multiple item drops that start quests to farm and one quest you can prepare. Have these items in your inventory and start them, when you arrive in Camp Taurajo in Phase 2.
Fly to Crossroads to turn in
Betrayal from Within. Fly to Thunder Bluff afterward.
Thunder Bluff
After you’ve arrived in Thunder Bluff turn in the following quests:
Additionally, you can donate Wool and Silk for
A Donation of Wool and
A Donation of Silk. These two quests can be kept for a later phase too.
Fly to Freewind Post in Thousand Needles next.
Thousand Needles
In Thousand Needles you can prepare the following quests:
This is the questing route for Horde characters at the start of Phase 2. As you noticed, these are way over 20 quests. Since most characters have completed a few of the quests to get their pre-raid BiS, additional quests might be needed. If you have enough quests to choose from, you should skip Stonetalon Mountains to save some time.
Depending on how many quests you can turn in you will receive over 80,000 experience points with this route.

For
Alliance characters, you want to complete quests mainly from Wetlands, Redridge Mountains, Darkshore, and Stormwind before WoW SoD Phase 2 launches. Some of these quests give you Pre-Raid BiS items. So if you intend to raid BFD with that character you might have turned the quests in already. In the following lists, you’ll find more quests than you can accept, so you can substitute quests you might have completed already.
Preparations
Set your Hearthstone to Lakeshire in Redridge Mountains and log out in Menethil in Wetlands at the end of Phase 1.
Keep all
Supply Shipments you find after hitting Friendly with your faction.
Participate in Ashenvale to get
Silverwing Battle Hymn after the last weekly reset in Phase 1. Don’t start
Repelling Invaders yet. Ashenvale is not part of your pre-questing route, but when you visit Ashenvale for the first time in Phase 2 you can turn it in for an additional 2,000 experience points.

Fly to Ironforge next.
Ironforge
In Ironforge you can prepare the following quests:
Additionally, you can donate Wool and Silk for
A Donation of Wool and
A Donation of Silk for
Dwarfs and
Gnomes. These quests can be kept for a later phase too.
This is the questing route for Alliance characters at the start of Phase 2. As you noticed, these are a little bit over 20 quests. Since most characters have completed a few of the quests to get their pre-raid BiS, the additional quests should help to give alternatives. If you get to 20 quests without Southshore, skip Southshore entirely and head to Redridge Mountains directly after Wetlands.
Depending on how many quests you have you will receive over 90,000 experience points with this route.
